The San Diego chapter sent three actives and two alumni to the leadership institute in New Orleans this year where they participated in leadership seminars, networking and community service projects to assist local residents still suffering from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Oh, and a few late evenings on Bourbon Street.
Actives Harvey Randhawa, Tyler Deary and Austin Clinkenbeard as well as Alumni Dave Maiolo and Ken Bobadilla brought back with them a better appreciation for Delta Upsilon as an international organization and an 
enlightening perspective on how DU is positioned to move forward in regard to the dynamic changes underway in education and technology.
Many of you may not be aware that Delta Upsilon is partially staffed by members of other fraternities. The current Executive Director is a Sig Ep and the Director of Alumni Relations is a TKE. As a non-secret fraternity, DU has the unique opportunity to seek the best talent ava
ilable, regardless of greek affiliation. Likewise, individuals seeking an organization poised for growth and technological advancement have sought out Delta Upsilon for career opportunities.
It is widely feared among many fraternities that their relevance is being questioned by the the education community. Not Delta Upsilon. The conference showed us that our fraternity has deliberately and actively positioned itself to adapt to the changes in education with leadership training programs, global service programs, interactive communication and reporting systems and more.
At each leadership conference, DU’s gather from all over north America to discuss and evaluate their current programs, refining them to better suit the needs of the fraternity, our members and society. Many other fraternities have annual conferences, but none are as focused on education and leadership as DU. We belong to quite a unique organization. One that offers
many more opportunities than those experienced locally. The annual Leadership Institute is an opportunity to experience the brotherhood shared by those who have made the same commitments to friendship, culture, character and justice as we have.
Sports teams share a goal to win, veterans share a common experience, co-workers share a job. We share a choice. We made a conscious decision to integrate our lives with those who made the same choice we did. It is important that we not forget that bond with our brothers locally and internationally.
