A Power House at SDSU Once Again

With over a hundred members and a new chapter house, DU is back in full force, but the job isn’t complete. As Brother Bruce Howard is fond of saying, “Let’s run through the finish line.”

Brothers,

It has been an exciting past couple of years, we have celebrated our 50th year at San Diego State University and this year we have built and opened a new chapter house.

This is a long time goal that has finally come true. We now have a place at SDSU that we can call home. We face many challenges in rebuilding our history, much of which was lost when we were off campus.

It is our current goal now to complete this new chapter house—with the appropriate memories and awards displayed—to represent all the efforts over the years that is our house history.

Many of you contributed as officers during your time in the house and know the time and efforts you gave to keep the house functioning and thriving. Those efforts should not be forgotten nor unrecognized for time moving forward.

There is Still Work to Be Done

We need to bring back the history, the sports banners and memorabilia that once adorned the shelves and walls in the chapter room. And we will continue to digitize all the old photo albums so you can go online and share with your children or grandchildren the great times you had with your fellow brothers.

This has been my dream as the Alumni President when I took on this position almost 8 years ago.

Zach Pedicini took on the project of building the house. He researched what had been built recently on campus and had the foresight to design a house that the Alumni Association will be able to manage moving forward even, if we have some chapter hiccups along the way. We now have a place on campus at SDSU forever.

For those still on the fence, go by the house. Look what has been built, but know we are not done. We still need your support.

This house is occupied by a chapter of 106 members. But it is still just the shell, it will not be complete until the memories are returned.

Raising the Bar

Erik Stroman developed the Alumni fundraising for this project and with Bruce Howard leading the calls we have raised over $200,000.

Some of this money will go to the active members to support the ongoing leadership training and education. Some money will provide Academic Scholarships to encourage the young men to be the best Fraternity house on campus in all aspects.

Although the house is built and we raised the $200,000, we still face immediate and significant financial issues.

The money raised has essentially been allocated and pre-spent. Yet we still need funds to finish projects in the house (garage door, BBQ, storage units, additional furniture, Etc).

We also need a savings account/sinking fund to cover the cost of running the house and mortgage payments when rents do not cover expenses as well as unforeseen but inevitable problems and circumstances that always arise in new construction.

Currently the rents, on full occupancy barely cover the monthly expenses. Added to that, we need to raise at least another $100,000 – $150,000 over the next semester to make sure we finish the house properly, can keep it going, and assure ourselves of liquidity to operate for the future.

Now, More than Ever, We Need Your Contribution

Now is the time to step up for the first time or, having witnessed the dedication, step up again to better the house and make DU a long term positive influence in our school and community and in the lives of the chapter members.

Brothers, we are back. And I mean that sincerely. We are a force to be reckoned with at SDSU. And this has occurred with your help—not just financially—but by getting involved, reaching out to brothers and attending events like our Founders Day tailgate, which had attendance of over 300 this year. The 50th reunion also had over 275 attendees for the two day event.

A Place to Call Home

Now we all have a place to come back to, to attend pre-parties for Aztec Basketball games and each semester Alumni Night to meet new chapter members. Getting involved at any level will help us continue to build our legacy at SDSU.

Many of you have supported the effort financially and by attendance, and for that I thank you all.

For those still on the fence, go by the house. Look what has been built, but know we are not done. We still need your support.

Your contribution is needed in two key areas, the San Diego State Housing Account and the San Diego State Chapter Education Account (CEA).

The Housing Account will be used to finish projects in the house (garage door, BBQ, storage units, additional furniture, Etc.) and cover ongoing operations of the chapter house.

The Chapter Education Account (CEA) will be used to fund scholarship and leadership training for the undergraduates – the key fund that has grown the house to 106 members.
