What is DU 2.0?

Essentially, DU 2.0 is a more proactive and interactive association where we provide opportunities for Bros to reconnect and assist one another in multiple ways. We are moving beyond the “static organization” that hosts an occasional tailgate or BBQ once a year. We are providing real services to our membership; we are deeply involved with education and leadership building assistance to the chapter; we are providing real community service; we want the San Diego County Delta Upsilon Alumni Association to stand for something positive in the community.

Don’t get us wrong, having a good time and enjoying a few drinks with our Bros will certainly find its way into our agenda, but we have an opportunity to really give back to the community and help our active chapter members build successful and fulfilling lives.

Please see our calendar for our upcoming events. Check out our programs page to find out what we’re doing to make a difference and please add your stories to the history page.

How can you help? Join one of our committees. The committee chairs are eager to get things done and they’ll need help planning and facilitating their ambitious objectives.

Please do not be discouraged by our attempts in the past that have fallen short of redefining our organization. This time there are more than a few of us making changes. Many Bros are stepping up to fill roles in education, scholarships, social events, leadership training, membership, career assistance and more. Good things have been happening and we want all of you to be a part of it:

  • The programs committee has already given several presentations to the chapter to help them interview and prepare for their career.
  • We’ve already been matching recent graduates with alumni to provide jobs.
  • A year long leadership program is outlined to provide the chapter with leadership skills.
  • For several years now, formal initiation ceremonies have inducted pledges into the fraternity.
  • Last year we assigned an alumnus to each chapter officer as a mentor and the pair meet on a monthly basis.
  • The alumni provide multiple scholarships to actives who achieve high GPA’s. This program itself has given a boost to Rush for the last couple of semesters.
  • The alumni host a preferential dinner for the actives and potential members each semester.
  • We now have a monthly alumni business networking breakfast to assist our members with their careers (see the calendar for more info).
  • We have had a very active Chapter Advisor in Bruce Howard, who for the last year has been working closely with the chapter. Bruce has done tremendous work and has laid the ground work for his replacement, making the position easier to fill.
  • Much, much more…

We know many of you have drifted from the association, discouraged that the fraternity had become nothing more than a drinking club. We assure that it is not. We have made real changes and have an opportunity to become an organization for which we can all be proud. Please join us in reinventing the San Diego County Delta Upsilon Alumni Association.

We encourage your comments.

Fraternally,
Dave Maiolo
President

  • Thanks for the post, Dave, and all your hard work. Glad the fraternity is finally taking advantage of its enormous resources. See you at the Padres game on June 11th.
